Arya

Arya is a single llama amongst a herd of alpacas but hasn’t really noticed. Originally intended to be the ‘guard llama’ she’s just basically one of the herd. She absolutely loves being in water (or at least as much of herself as she can squeeze in) or having a hose turned on her. She adores celery.

Caspian

Caspian is may be a very handsome rooster, even though sometimes his manners can be very much less than charming. He does an excellent job of looking after his harem, but occasionally this involves him making mistakes about precisely who and what is a threat. If he thinks you’re up to no good, watch out!

Eddy

Eddy is the larger of the two Kunekunes. When he was a baby, he was quite orange in colour, and although the shade has dulled as he has aged, he is no less a colourful character. Both he and brother Harry are very friendly, inquisitive, and always ready to join you for a snack.

Clementine

Clementine faced a very uncertain future when she was left at a stable in Calgary. She was miserable and forlorn, but a kind lady arranged for her to be sent here. She has now rediscovered the pleasures of being wanted and is always ready and willing to take a treat.

Pixie

Pixie came from a background where most of her herd was killed by a pack of dogs. She and Krystal survived and have seemingly managed to get over the psychological trauma of the event. However, if she sees a dog, she will let everyone know about it, loudly!

Button

Button comes from the same farm as Petunia, and has almost the same history, although he was never shown in 4H. For a while after arriving, he would flee in terror if we tried to approach him. Now he is our friendliest sheep and if he likes you, he loves to be cuddled and hugged.

Cedric

Cedric came from a large herd where he did not quite fit in. The very first thing he did when he arrived was run away, and for the first two hours of his life here, Markus had to trail through the forest after him. Eventually he gave up, but had to be carried back, which took another hour! Since then, he’s become the most affectionate of the goats.

Darius

Darius is the former boss goose, whose reign ended when Faron arrived. After being unhappy about this for a while, he has adjusted well and is now quite happy with his place in the literal pecking order. When the mood takes him, he can be a surprisingly affectionate goose, particularly with Tristan.

Maggie

Maggie is a beautiful highland cow whose horns were sadly removed , before she came to us , when she was part of a breeding program. Not surprisingly she was very fearful when she first arrived at POHP with her daughter Bonnie, to whom she is a very good mother.

Julian

Julian came to POHP when the sanctuary that had rescued him as a calf closed. As a baby he was raised as a bottle fed baby, along with his brother Jimmy , who was saved at the same time. They have grown into very large friendly cows.

SPonsorship

The Piece of Heaven Project has over 100 animals of various sizes! Between food and vet bills, the direct costs of caring for all these animals add up quickly!

Our biggest expense, by far, is hay. This year, the price of a single round bale (which will feed our 7 cows for four days) is $120. We use an additional two bales every week to feed the rest of the sanctuary clan; putting us at over $450/week in cost of hay alone!

Does my animal friend have more than one sponsor?

It is often too costly for one person to sponsor all of an animals' needs. On average, it costs $435 to care for one of our animals for a year (the cows and horses are considerably more!) including food, hay, vitamins, medication, vet bills and the infrastructure to keep the animals safe, dry and warm in all weather conditions - we get extremes here!

We therefore must provide for their needs with the help of multiple generous sponsors. As a sponsor, your contribution not only provides for your animal friend but works to protect all our farm animals and supports our efforts towards animal advocacy and vegan education.
